I just bought a 1931 Ford 5-window coupe (steel) with a 292 y block casting # EDB6015-A
head casting # ECZ-G high compression
intake- edelbrock (3) deuces-ford (ECG)holly 94's
im in the process of rebuilding it, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a newer updated distributor I could use in place of the factory distributor. Or, should I leave it alone? Its my first y-block, so I got my local speed shop doing most of the head updates and bottom end work for me. Hes pretty knowledgable with the y-block, but I just wanted a second opinion. Any help would be appreciated!!! I also have a factory (2) four barrel intake that came with the 31 coupe, any thoughts on what I should do with this intake. I kinda want to go with that nistalgic look of the 3 deuces!
Thanks, Ron
As for the distributors, MSD, Mallery, both make them and you can get a $60 rebuilt from the auto parts that uses a 60's small block top on it. Witch is what I am using but the advance curve does not seem to be rite. In that distributor a am running a mallery unalight convershion. You may want to check out www.ford-y-block.com and www.y-blocksforever.com and the intake would look cool eather way.
I got my dizzie at Advance Auto for $51 including points and condenser; works fine in my 292. The benefit is an O ring seal which doesnt freeze the dizzie in the block like the originals; Ford came out with this as a replacement in 65. The Pertronics fits right in.
I would be interested in that dual quad intake; I have an Edelbrock 3 carb on the 292 in the truck but want to build a T roadster nostalgia altered for the NE Dragway.
