1977 400

I'm getting a '77 400 ready to install in my '79 F-250. Trying to figure out what kind of setup the air cleaner had. Is it same as for a '79 351m?

I just posted for some help with vacuum lines, but failed to mention the air cleaner wasn't set up either and the air box from the '79 has three ports needing lines.

If the 1977 400 air box is same, where do the vacuum lines come from? One operates the air damper, the other two are on the cover.

Manifold vacuum goes to one of the pair on the cover, which is a temperature-sensing valve. The other port of the valve goes to the vacuum motor in the snorkel, sometimes through a vacuum check valve.

There's more explanation of the temperature-sensing bleed valve and the air cleaner heat stove system toward the bottom of this page:

Vacuum - Emissions System Help

Note: For anyone reading this post who's never been to Bubba250's site... go there, even if this question doesn't pertain to your problem... comprehensive help there!

Thanks for your reply Bubba250. Your site was first on list before I posted It's one of the best technical resources available!

So, route the snorkel motor port (vacuum-actuated damper?) to one of the cover's two ports.

Does it matter which port?

You said the second port of the temp sensing bleed valve goes to manifold vacuum.

Does it directly connect to the unconnected port on the intake in front of the carb?

Great, I'm missing the air pump and it was was locked up and bypassed on the 351M.

Still left open the short vacuum line from passenger side bottom front carb and the line from a two-port tree on left side of water pump below the water neck.
