P24FE Code Question

22 F450 with 10k. Highway driving and P24FE check engine shows up. DEF related issue. Truck was full of DEF from truck stop and has not been added to for awhile. 50 miles to 50 mph shows up on dash. Every 10 miles warning continues. Got to location and truck reported after next startup the 50 mph max speed will be in effect. Called local dealer and they reported two week backlog on appointments.

Checked my IBanks gauge and read code. I figured I would cancel the code and see what happens. Well it got rid of the code and the speed restriction and the truck runs as it should. 300 miles and a week of driving and no CEL.

Dealer will not work on truck without code showing. Does anyone have any experience with this code? Have to tow 5er 1200 miles in three weeks and have some concerns. I think I could just cancel code again if it shows up on the trip and take it to my local dealer.

Any info or advice....Thanks

Well, that is an odd one.
SCR Catalyst Incorrect

Possibly a NOx sensor issue, possibly a exhaust leak, weak DEF or possibly just a hiccup and is nothing.

About the only thing to do is drive it and watch for it to pop again.
You may never see it again.

sounds like your dealers where you live are useless as well. Backed out 2 weeks, same as here in NC. That's BS, who has the time to wait two weeks, them order parts, wait a week or so, then fix it. Were talking 1 month of downtime. I think its ford doing BS to try and get out of as much warranty as possible. What if you were on vacation across the country. Guess you would just sit with your thumb up your *** for two weeks and wait!!
on a 2nd note, "if" ford is short that many techs, they should do a big corporate push for new tech training, sign on bonus, pay increase, etc to quickly fill this issue. Fords will figure it out more over time, the trucks are only as good as their service centers.

I had my truck to the dealership on the morning of the 14th for the required annual safety inspection, and I added DEF from a Quarrels location pump later that day. On the 16th my truck threw the P24FE code which I cleared with FORSCAN after I got home. This morning (the 17th) it popped up again after driving about 15 minutes. I stopped back at the dealership and they have me coming in tomorrow for them to diagnose. The FordPass app says it’s contaminated DEF.

Wish me luck…

Please update after dealer visit. FYI, it has been two months and 3k miles since my CEL incident. Has not come back so far after I canceled the code.

Congratulations! I am going to be picking it up in a little bit. The dealer said it was contaminated DEF. They drained the DEF, flushed the tank out, refilled it, and performed a manual regen. I was quoted $731 for all. I asked how much without the regen as I can do it myself, but was told it didn’t add anything.

I have started an incident report with Quarles so that they can reimburse me for the repair. I think I’m in pretty good shape there because I passed the safety inspection that Friday morning, and then bought 4+ gallons of DEF at their pump using my credit card. I then got the first CEL on Sunday, and after I cleared it, got another on Monday morning.

The DEF seems to be a sensitive system. Hope this solved your issue and you get reimbursed.

In over 10 years of owning DEF required diesel pickups, and putting nearly a million miles on them, I have never had any DEF contamination issue.
My first DEF truck, 2012 F250, the DEF heater went south, on my 2015 RAM 2500, had a recall on the SCR Cat, so far, knock wood, zero issues on my 2022 F250.

I see guys posting DEF related issues all the time, just don't understand why though, human factor I guess.

I have purchased DEF from the same pump in the past without issue. Not much I could have done or anticipated prior to putting it in my tank.

22' F-350 with 10k miles.
I was headed to the deer lease with a loaded trailer a week ago and got that same warning message. Didn't have a code reader with me but pulled over in the next town and unhooked the batteries for 15 minutes and it reset. Hasn't been back since. That was 400-500 miles ago.
Truck was topped off with DEF at my house with new clean jugs before I left. And it was pretty low before I filled it. DEF Gauge and miles to empty stayed at 2000 most of my trip.
I'm wondering if the computer senses that if the DEF level doesn't drop in a certain amount of miles, that message pops up.
The computer thinks the DEF injector is malfunctioning cause it doesn't see the level drop. Especially since its not a true gauge. Just a theory. Or maybe my DEF injector really is clogging up. Who knows.

I believe the new trucks are very sensitive to many def issues that come up. It does not involve driver actions in most cases. Basically luck of the draw. Drove my last truck 5 years with no issues, the 22 has had a couple of hiccups. Fortunately my cel did not return after I cleared it with my IBanks guage. Hard to really know what the exact issue is sometimes.

How do you cancel the code? I just had this same issue happen to me. I got this code and P2A00 o2 circuit range/Performance. Truck has 25,000 miles. Should i just pay the $5000 and get it deleted?

My I Dash guage can read and cancel codes. I would not delete and the truck would not be able to pass inspection or sell in many places.
