battery light

Have a '99 Expedition with 4.6...battery light comes on....battery discharges and is replaced (4 years old) with a new one...same result...new alternator installed same problem...had alternator checked just in case it was defective but alternator is fine...but battery light stays on and with usage battery discharges....any ideas as to what problem may be if alternator is not the problem?

A instrument cluster short could cause the light to stay on and be the draw that discharges the battery when not in use.

thanks for the feedback...I'll have the instrument cluster checked out at one of my trusted shops since I'm not very adept when it comes to electronics....anyway hope it's an easy fix since it's one of our daily drivers....it forces me to allow my wife to drive my aerostar and I'm forced into driving one of my toys...
