I just bought this 1986 F-150 and every time I turn on my headlights my dash lights are dim and so are the head lights. Every time I hit a bump every thing lights up but it goes dim again. where should I start looking for the short if it is one or what should I do Please help!!!!!
look under the dash were the dash lights are for a loose connection or behind the front grill were each head lights are i'm not realy sure though because i had one bad head light and connector that caused that problem
First thing I would do would be to check your voltage at the headlights, if it isn't close to 14Vs, I'd work my way back to the headlight switch. On my truck, the dash lights are dim because the dimmer is going bad in the headlight switch..
If I am reading your post correctly I may know what the problem is.
Look at the wiring for your headlights.. trace the wired that come out of the back of the headlight sockets... one of them goes directly to ground. it is grounded with a 1/4" hex head screw that is tapped into the fender ( or rad support) . make sure that these screws are tight. if they are not, you will get all kinds of funny stuff happening because the lights are looking foa a ground.... I hope that this helps...
