F150 Lightning Get's Another Black Eye

Wow.... Ford can't get their act together and it's F150 Lightning get's another big black eye. And the punches continue! There's got to be a tipping point for Farley as he has the company in the ditch.

Oh, gimme a break. One article is from a hot rod magazine highlighting criticism of a new battery manufacturing facility. 🥱 The other is about material sourcing for aluminum bodies. You could write those same two articles about the supply chain for virtually every other vehicle made today. The aluminum facilities in that article can produce over 6.3 million tons of alumina each year...how many manufacturers do you think buy from them?

Ford has issues right now, and I've been critical of them on a number of levels. But these articles are just silly hit pieces.

I'm for building batteries in the US, but only with US Technology that cannot be shared. Protect our US intellectual property.

I don’t know that anyone makes batteries with IP that’s exclusive to the U.S. CATL was one of the innovators of LFP battery development years ago, and they’re the ones who figured out how to make them cost-effectively at scale. Ford was likely faced with the choice of making them domestically with their tech, or passing on even more cost increases to the buyers. I know which option I’d prefer.

LFP batteries are awesome. They can regularly be charged to 100% without increasing degradation, are more chemically stable, have less of a fire risk, and they hold up much better than the typical NMC cells. The downside is energy density, which is why they’ll only fit into a standard-range pack. I don’t care which tech they license to make them.
