I'm just posting this because I'm waiting for the block heater and diesel 911 to kick in. Filled up Wednesday at the Kwik Trip in Superior, Wisconsin and the truck drove just fine until Thursday night... At just under 5 F it started running rough and had absolutely no power. I turned on the BCP switch and let it warm itself up for about fifteen minutes, it still ran like total crap. I topped it off with 8 gallons of #1 diesel (thank god these trucks can use big rig fuel pumps) and it made it home but was mighty pissed off about the trip. I'm hoping it starts this morning so I don't have to crawl under it and find the fuel filter.
This is the first time I've ever had a truck gel up while the engine was warmed up and running, and I've been driving diesels since 2006. Did they change the amount of returned fuel to the tanks or something? Those old semis I drove had a note that as long as the engine was warm the fuel returned to the tank would be warm enough to prevent gelling and I was able to run one at -35 F on straight #2 (just never shut it off)
Anyway, some absolute moron told me that truck stops don't sell straight #2 diesel in northern states. I'd like to punch him in the nose I mean I knew he was wrong, and how much further north can you go that Superior, Wisconsin and stay in the continental USA? lol
The diesel 911 worked great topped it off with #1 and drove 450 miles. I noticed some gas stations have taken down their winter blend diesel signs and prices are suspiciously lower. It was -15 last night not really sure what they are thinking lol
