My truck started idling rough a couple days ago,I searched through the forums and found all the info about the IAC unit. After removing and cleaning i still have problem but not as bad,Unfortunately no one had a new iac in stock(figures! ) . So monday i will be installing new valve. Very glad to have this site to get info from.
IAC won't fix a rough idle it will fix a low or high idle. Even if the idle is low enough to stall it shouldn't be rough. What does you tach read when its rough..???
From: I'm lost somewhere in NJ -- can someone please find me?!?!?!?
Any thoughts on the PCV? From what I understand, a failed PCV can be responsible for rough idel, too. It's easy enough to determine if the unit has failed (just shake it and listen for a rattle -- if it rattles easily, all is well). It's really cheap to replace, too -- some guys do it with minor tune-ups just as preventative maintenance.
the tach reads around 600-700 at idle ,smoothes out as soon as i touch the gas. I'll take a look at the pcv too. after cleaning the valve and driving the truck it did run a bit better, but not consistently.
I finally changed my iac. Started truck up,still running rough! Hmm,next i disconnected batt to see if that helped, restarted and still running rough Then ,being the creature of infinite patience that i am ,I took it for a ride .About 2 minutes into the drive the truck was back to idling smooth as glass. Not sure why it worked that way but glad its running good!
I suspect the IAC was your problem. Sure sounds like it, it will cause rough idle condition, as it sends an inconsistent signal to the PCM.
Disconnecting the battery was a good move IMHO, the PCM was relearning the curve with everything working for a couple minutes. With any luck, your problems are solved.
