Heater valve installation

Hello, all. I have a 1954 F100, and the original design firewall-mounted heater valve went bad. The original valve results in a 90 degree turn for the hose to or from the cab. The only replacement valve I could find is a straight inline valve, and I'm having some trouble figuring out how the new valve can be installed. Has anyone dealt with this before, or maybe have a suggestion?
Thanks,
Ed

Do you mean the valve on the intake manifold?

I ordered one from Mid Fifty several years ago. It didn't look like the original Ford valve. I found an NOS valve on eBay.

Check mid fifty and eBay.

The valve is not on the intake manifold, it is mounted to the firewall, passenger side. I got the new, inline valve from mid fifty, who told me that the original design is no longer available.

I just re-read your original post and see that you said "firewall-mounted heater valve." Sorry I can't help you. Both my trucks have the recirculating heater. But I would still check ebay.

Install it in the intake hose for the heater core for maximum benefit but it will also work on the return hose.

Can you post a picture of what you have? Does it look like this one? It just fits into the hot water hose from the intake manifold to the heater core. There's a flow arrow and a provision to use a cable under the dash to open and close the valve.

Yes, Wayne, that's the one I have. I was concerned that it needed to be mounted to a solid surface, but if it will work just inserted in the hose, that should do it. Thanks.

As long as the hoses are firm enough to allow the cable to operate the valve, you should be fine. If you route them right and are careful with their length, you may be able to zip tie them together for added rigidity.

I had a manual cable operated one but swapped it out for a 12V elec.unit on my F1. Works great...... no more cable binding issues that I had from time to time with the manual valve.
