Amazon had a charitable program tied to their online sales (smile.amazon.com) that would donate .5% of the purchase price to the charity of your choice. Since its inception, the program has donated close to half a billion dollars to charities across the country (and globe).
As of yesterday (February 20) the program is no more. Amazon has shut it down.
With more than a million recognized charities in the world, only the biggest charities saw sizeable contributions steered their way.
It appears that the program got caught up in Amazon's cost-cutting efforts.
