I am looking at a 2002 PSD F350. A newbie question is this--why is there 2 batteries under the hood? Some only have 1 correct?
Where is the fuel filter located at?
Anybody ever have trouble starting the 7.3 in winter?
Diesels need more power to start - that's why you have 2 batteries.
The fuel filter is underneath the plastic cover at the center-front of the engine. There's a plastic cap that you unscrew to get at the filter. It's really easy.
This is my first winter with the Power Stroke, but so far it has started right up down to the low-teens F.
Thanks for the help, I guess I am just be a nervous person over nothing. My brother-in-law had a 1981 Ford with the Diesel in it and he said they're junk. I would hope 20 years of technology would prove him different.
Also, these glow plugs- are they something that only the dealer would mess with when needing replacement or is this something a handyman can tackle?
Sorry for the ignorant posts, but I am Norman New guy here!!
I have an older Chebby with the dreaded 6.2 diesel and I don't really have problems getting that one going either. The PSD really starts a lot better, though.
The glow plugs are under the valve covers. I have never replaced them, but I'm reasonably sure if you're capable of doing the valve covers, the rest isn't a problem.
