Leaking Trans -E4OD
My 93 f150 recently started leaking tranny fluid.(E4OD). I went under it today, I can see the fluid around the pan gasket and a lot of build up around the bell housing, and shaft exit(2wd). I did the gasket, filter and fluid less than a year ago and it was fine for a while but just started leaking. It's a cork gasket, could that be the problem? I already checked, all the bolts are tight. I live in MA, currently the truck is in storage, and covered (I finished restoring it about a year ago.) A couple weeks ago we hit -15, could that have caused any problems?
Thanks!
I've got a thick piece of glass I set things like that on to check for flatness & warpage.
A reusable synthetic is worth the extra cost after any distortion is corrected or a replacement is found.
The stock pans or the Dorman replacement pans have a tendency to dimple and warp along the pan rail and leak. I'm mostly a "Keep it original" guy but sometimes the aftermarket does do it better.
A cork/paper or rubberized material should only be used on a pan that has raised ribs between the bolt holes.
If the pan has a smooth mounting surface and/or the pan has the notation "pan is equiped with a reuseable gasket" stamped into it, you will need to use the re--useable ford gasket F6TZ-7A191-A
Don't over tighten the pan bolts. They strip out VERY EASILY!
