whining noise?

I purchased a 98 Explorer XLT 5.0 AWD in 9/03. There is a whining noise under the hood that is there all the time that goes away at at 2000+ RPM's. It sounds like a bearing noise in the Alt or PS. It does not get louder when turning, or under electrical load and alt tests fine. The guy I bought it from says it has been there since new. It sounds like a Chev 350 with timing gears instead of timing chain. No problems, but annoying. Anyone have this noise?

I suggest taking the serpentine belt off and spinning all the pulleys to see if there is any drag or noise. Pretty simple to do, and you might find something.

if it is your Mass Air flow sensor then I suggest pricing it out yourself and replacing it yourself. I let some shop do it and it cost me neirly 200 bucks, I later found out I coulda bought one for 65 and put it in my self. Nothing better than a guy who admits to being dumb.
