Ford Boxlink

So I'm looking at these special locking cleats for my Box Link brackets and I'm wondering if there is any particular way they are supposed to be used or do they work with some special ratchet straps or something? What is the value to the odd shape?

You can put padlocks or bungee hooks in the little holes in the ends. If you are good at tying knots the overall shape lends itself to tying stuff down with ropes, like those things on boats and boat docks.

Since I'm terrible with knots I have to stick with bungees and ratchet straps.

Yup, they are shaped like cleats on boats, so you can tie ropes on them the same way.
And, all the holes can be used with the small ratchet straps, hooks looped through the holes.
I do wish the holes in the ends were bigger though, the hooks on most of my small straps are very tight in the holes.
I haven't taken the time to fool with drilling them out though.

On previous trucks those cleats always seemed a bit too tight and were difficult to insert. With my current truck they're still in the sealed package. I use E track accessories on the BoxLink brackets.

ratchet strap for me. i'm not crazy about them. my first and best experience with bed tie downs was the nissan setup in the titan. full length rails along the bed rails, bed floor, and the front of the bed. the ford stuff feels cheap and is loose.

I run a cable lock through the hole(s) to secure fuel containers, coolers, etc. It isn't going to stop a determined thief, but mainly keeps the honest folks from walking off with the items.

Other than that, the brackets work well for tie downs and rope. I do wish these beds had better accommodations for 2x6's or 2x8's to help compartmentalize them.
