I've been on the lookout for a decent 4.9/300 I6 and a E4OD for awhile and found one that I'm hoping to pick up next week. And, as many times as I've thought about buying an engine hoist, I haven't yet because it always seemed that something else needed to be taken care of first ($$) so I was hoping to borrow one for a week or so from someone ... thought maybe one of you fellow MS Chapter folks might could help me out with a loaner. I'm only needing one for a couple of weeks at most.
I'm located on the coast but am willing to drive a couple of hours or so pick it up and bring it back. I know that might be asking alot but if ya think you can help, please let me know - Thanks!
Update on previous post - when I reconfirmed the pick-up date and time, the seller said that he sold the transmission to someone else already -- so now I'm just back to looking for a good 300 and E4OD - not gonna drive as far as was going to for both if he only has the engine. 300's are not that hard to find at the normal PAP's I go to. But the E4OD's have eluded me
Thanks for the offer. The deal I'd found was a combo for $250 - too bad he sold it before I could get there. Well ... I guess that gives me more time to find a good hoist locally.
If you see a 4.9/E4OD there in Jax, please let me know. Getting it from a self-pull yard would certainly make it easier than an individual.
Ironically, I'll be in the Clinton area tomorrow, but may not have time to stop at the PAP (although I'm gonna try as always), and most certainly won't have time to pull an engine and trans but if I (or you guys) find one, that'd be a lot easier. I wasn't aware they'd pull it for you - that good news.
Thanks for the help and input guys. I didn't get to the Jackson PAP after all while up in Clinton due to other things and the rain but will keep pursuing a low-priced 300/E4OD that I can be working on (among other JY only type parts) and maybe things will work out better another time ...
Located an Engine Hoist - also got a 300 I6 and E4OD from a 95 E150 from New Orleans Pull-A-Part. When cleaning up and inspecting the 300, I was surprised to find that all 6 of the intake-side push rods were out from under their rocker arms when I removed the valve cover. Makes sense why the PO let it go to the junk yard - but how can this happen? And from an initial inspection of the push rods themselves, only one of all 12 seemed to be bent. The crank turns fairly easy and none of the pistons look bad ... heading to the machine shop tomorrow
