Hi everyone. How can I make these words bigger so nobody has to squint to read?
I recently went and bought some body parts from a guy, all I wanted and needed was the two front fenders and no complaints they in pretty good shape! But his deal was I had to buy
the doors too...it was a package deal. Well, the doors are nice too! But my truck is a roll down window door.....nothing fancy. and that's fine..
But....here we are...I'm looking at these fancy full power locks, window, mirror doors....how nice it would be to hook them up. Here's the problem # one they cut the wires...second problem
is where or what can I do.....just find power and "jerry" rig them windows....or does the truck have a harness tucked away to just click into? I don't care about the power locks or mirrors...but if I could get
the windows to work...that be kinda kool....... ;-)
I found this wire diagram....but will it help? Is there just a easy way to provide some 12 volt juice and be done with it?
what i have found so far on my truck ('05 F250) is that the plugs are there....so far I have added the OEM trailer brake controller, upfitter switches, and power rear window. All the plugs/harnesses were already in place and dosnt need to be added to the computer. The trailer brake controller does...forgot about that....anyways, i think the plugs may be there....worth a look....
For SURE! I'll look for some plug in's hangin' about... The sad part for me is.....the guy selling the doors did NOT do the nice thing by unhooking....he just took a pair of snips!! ughh!
I'm getting conflicting stories about the GEM....I'm told that my year...if the truck was set up as a regular "no extra's" the GEM might not work even if there's a plug in for the wires??
I have no problem taking off the inside skin and tracing the wires to where they go...locks, speaker , mirror and of course window. I was thinking that it might be more easier
to just forget the lock...the mirror.....just find the speaker and then figure out how do I get "hot" to the window so I can use the switch to have it go up and down??????
Just thinking out loud here.......anyone do it this way....just give the window a "hot"? or is there relay's ...fuse....things to factor in.???????????
im sure you can do that way if you want, but you will need relays and some trial and error to figure out what the wires do...if there is no plug there, im pretty sure you can figure it out with a schematic.....i kinda did the same thing on my '07 Ram. It's an ST model...basic model. I added power windows. For the rear doors, I used the OEM window switches, but I needed the pinout on the switches. I paid one of the Dodge techs on "ASK.com" I think...or something like that...$5...well worth it....

okay.....some good idea's there! Thanks....I was looking on Ebay to see if I could find an old wire harness WITH push in end where they cut it off instead of going in the cab and unhooking it...Couldn't believe my eyes!! someone wanted 50$ for a wire harness with the same problem I'm having...it's butchered cut!!! of course I'd see if I've got a hook up in my cab...before going that route of finding a good end......Waitin' for a warmer day to happen...we still in Winter here...and my bones just do not deal with the cold as used to.....don't get old. Thinkin' that if there a hook up..in cab...and GEM is cool with it...I still may have to check fuse box at fuse and relay to see if they exist for power windows...may have to add a fuse and relay in the blank spots??? umm...lot's of checkin'/researchin' to do
I ran into this a few years ago with my 2001 and all of the power guts are still sitting in my attic. From my research on the forum, pre 2005 did NOT have everything pre-wired like the 2005 and up trucks. So the door harness is actually part of the cab harness, meaning there is nothing to plug the doors into, hence the reason they were cut. When I got my stuff I traced the wires from the doors all the way up under the dash, hoping to find a plug. But never did. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me because I really want power windows and locks. Good luck with your project and keep us updated.
Hey buddy! That's interesting info...Very interesting.... As I said..kinda cold here so I've not explored inside my cab yet...but I think you may be right! As much as I would rather it not be right.... I think it's down to figuring out how can I make the windows work without an "official" cab wire hook up..so to speak.
another option is kinda like how i wired in my power windows on the front doors of my Ram. I used OEM power window regulators and an aftermarker switch kit from A1Electric or AutoLoc...not sure who....but wired that thru a relay to only come on with key on position.....u can use your OEM switches, but hafta figure out which wires control what......but u avoid going the the PCM and existing wiring....
You can wire them separately from the GEM. What you need to do is wire the windows to each go through a relay and use the switch to turn the relays on. Same with the paper door locks.
what you need to look at is the way a winch is wired as the winch uses the same switch and reversed polarity to make the motor go forward or reverse. Same with the door locks.
IF yiu want the factory type wiring you may need to hit the junkyard to grab the interior dash/door harness and GEM from a similar truck.

OK!!! That's what I wondered...This summer I had the chance to play with several friends winches. They where remote ones. We hated the remote so we hard wired them to run off a switch off the handle bars.....they worked out great! I had wondered if these windows would be a similar concept...the only one that I think might pose a little confusion would be the driver door....as that set up is like a room in a home with two switches in the room to run the one light in the room. But finding the wires that do what we need alone...and just separate the two doors to work alone...with each their own relay...I can live without being able to control the pass door at the drivers side...but I'll have to take a look... I'm gonna look online..wonder if I can find a small relay...much smaller than what's used on winches...that would work for this...What's nice is the relay will need the "power" red...and need the "ground" black.. then the rest is up to the switch! Hey 2001 F350 dualwheel...?? Your title and year is so close to mine....did u go the GEM route? Did they even make anything above an XL...?? in those yrs...I think but not sure...the doors I got came off a 2004 Lariet...Funny how this goes from a simple fender job to the doors.....leave it to me....simple never follows me! ha! GREAT help here ! THANKS for the "push" in the right direction!!! THANKS!!

inparted out a few trucks so I saw the wiring
Btw you DONT want to hardwire anything like that through the window switches. Window Switches aren’t designed to carry high voltage/ amperage. There are switches designed for such use but this isn’t the case. A switch is used to make a low voltage connection to connect a high voltage/amp draw circuit. .
Window motors pull a lot of amperage even if they are 12 volts. You want to wire them up through relays. What you want to do is use the window switches as what turns on the relay to send positive and negative for one function say up then the down switch reverses the function for the reverse function. remember a relay is just a two point switch “common” can be used as a power supply circuit or a ground
You’ll need multiple relays and also a master that controls all relays to be able to control them from the driver seat. I’m not sure if this is a crew cab or single cab.

That is correct...I was aware from doing the winch relays and switch and also lawn mower solenoids follow the same principle the "power" is at the Relay, never through the switch itself. The switch is only a helper for telling the relay that the relay can provide power to the winch, starter(mower) or in our case the window motor. That much I grasp. On a winch set up the up down is like the window deal...with the winch relay it's changing the "pos" and "neg" to navigate the up or down. another words the motor works(or winch) one way with pos and neg hooked one way...then if you want the other way...the pos and neg get reversed so that the motor will go the other way.
