Thank you for the tips. I will try it as soon as I get some time. I'll get a pic of the distributor soon as well.

If you have a vacuum line to the dist. then dont need a picture only a picture of the carb from the drivers side.

It is a few days late, but a bit of food for thought.

YIKES ! Water and varnish probably.

BTW, I just sold my truck. I did tell the buyer all about the hard starting issue. He's pretty experienced mechanic.

Looking for another old truck. Hopefully another Bullnose 4x4.

Sorry to hear you sold it before getting it working the way it should.
Did you point the new owner to this FTE?
Hope you find something and come on back.

I did get it starting/running much better before I sold it. Thanks to folks here.

I adjusted the manual choke cable and messed with the timing a bit. I don't have a Tach, so I couldn't set the timing the correct way.

I did point out all the issues (including the hard start when cold) to the new owner. Yes, I did point him here but he's not PC savy and doesn't participate in Message Forums such as this. These Message Forums are priceless. I've been using them since the 90's. I was one of the original Moderators on www.CrownVic.com .

I sold my truck out of frustration with all the stupid/hacks the PO had done to it. I messed up when I bought it and didn't go over it with a fine toothed comb like I usually do. The holes in the heater box is what broke the camel's back. The PO cut a big hole near the blower motor to get air flowing inside the cab. Of course the plastic door hinge was broken and blocked air flow. The big hole allowed water to leak inside and rotted out the floor boards. I don't have the time/patients to rip out the dash and replace a whole heater box.

I just missed snagging a really nice old 1978 4x4, 300, manual. Looking for something with working AC. I moved here to LA (Lower Alabama) last year and the heat/humidity is downright brutal ! Especially on this Yankee ! Lol !

Thank you for all your help. As Arnold says... "I'll be back" !

Also, I got $3800 for my truck. With rusted out floor pans and all the issues it had.

Sometimes just walking away for a bit works but you went extrem and sold the truck LOL

Oh I hear you on needing AC!
8 years ago I moved from CT to NC and on the trip down pulling a car trailer the AC went out on my 02 Durango and had to get it fixed.
To get AC in my 81 F100 I replaced half the firewall. AC and nonAC firewalls are different on the 80 - 86 trucks.
Parts truck had factory AC and it all went into mine.

The street car I am building, started 12+ years ago in CT, if I knew I was moving down here I would have added AC to it over rebuilding the heater box. If I ever get it finished I will look cool driving it even if I am sweating like a pig LOL

Good luck on your hunt for a good truck.

Well, looks like I may find myself in another old F150 4x4! Found a really decent 78 4x4 here locally. Too good to pass up. Even without A/C. Probably do a portable A/C if things go through tomorrow. I passed up on an OK 1989 F150 4x4 today. Had too many issues for me. The 78 is a 300, manual truck. Love that engine/tranny combo. It will be my 5th 300/manual I've owned the past 20 years. Can't wait to go pick it up!
