O2 Sensor(s) Damaged...

I own a 1996 Explorer 4X4 V6 and I was wondering if there was anyway that I could tell which one of my O2 sensors is damaged. Guy at the dealership says that they can't tell and the only way to get the check engine light off and to fix the problem is to replace all of them. Is this true, or can you pinpoint the one that doesn't work?
Also, I was wondering if I could do the job myself, and if so, anyone have a diagram or other type of help to help me locate them and change them? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You should be able to tell which one is faulty by using a scan tool. I think there's three O2 sensors, and using a scan tool, you can watch all three in real-time, to see which one is not responding....

Cant figure out which one is bad???????????????
Take it to a real mechanic. A GOOD INDEPENDANT shop can figure this out quickly.

There are indeed three O2's on your model. A code is stored in memory that will tell which one is faulty. If you can tell us the code, we can tell you which sensor is bad. The code will indicate which bank, and whether it's an upstream or downstream sensor.

You can replace them yourself. They are very easy except for one. You will need a special O2 sensor socket to get to it, but they are inexpensive.
