I have a 1997 F-250HD 4x4 Crew cab short bed with 7.3PSD.
My front axle has a slight grinding noise when driving with 4x4, so i need to order some parts and need to know what the front axle is called.
When driving in 2 wheel drive there is no noise at all, so the problem lies further inwards to the center of the axle.
Also would like to know what the tool for hub nuts are called. I have manual locking hubs.
Found this tag under a thick layer of Fluid Film corrosion protection.
o'reileys usually has the spindle nut socket in stock
get a 10 lbs slide hammer (5 b will do if you like to hit it 250 times) to pull the axle tube if really stuck on , you need this for the spindle bearing and then its handy for other projects too like pulling seals
Something has been done to the front axle at some point, since my vehicle registration paper states "Approved raised front according to documentation from Ford 130503(061)"
I have a suspicion that the number 130503 is the date when it was done and approved, 13th May 2003. This is the way we write the date here in Norway.
My VIN number is: 1FTHW26F2VEC30612
Those are not the stock springs for the U.S. that you pictured. The stock one would have 2 leaves and would have a negative arch to them. Probably where the approved raise front comes into play.
