So I have a 88 f150. It has a 302. I was talking to someone about the interval for the oil change. I’m using a Penzoil high mileage synthetic blend right now. My opinion if it’s not 100% synthetic it’s 6 months 3500 miles. They were telling me I’ve hardly driven the truck don’t waste your money on changing it at the 6 month mark, and that the time interval is just a scam to make money. But this oil has 20 miles on it, the truck probably has 10hrs of idle time on it maybe more 20hrs at most. It needs to be changed at the 6 month mark in march. Are they right? Is it a waste to change it at that 6 month? I would think it is worth changing being that the engine hasn’t driven more than 20 miles in 6 months so there’s gonna be condensation and stuff in the engine that gets the water in the oil and it’ll create acids or mix with acids I heard. In my opinion oils cheap an engine and my time is way more expensive than $60 for an oil change.
the only thing you are doing changing on time schedule instead of mileage is giving yourself peace of mind.
like Proto said, if you bring the engine up to operating temp when running it, it will evaporate the condensation in the oil.
i do not bother with synthetic oil, as i feel it is a waste of money because i change oil at 3000 miles.
