AllData at your local library will have the diagnosis pages you need
Fighting a truck check engine light now myself and have been to my library twice in the last week
There are some basic tests or a few things you can check
Does it have brake lights and a horn? It takes both circuits working for the cruise to function
The newer ones use the BOO switch on the master cylinder as a dump and the older ones had a pedal vacuum dump switch
Yours should have a BOO switch and a dealer installed (recall) fuse in the harness at the master cylinder
They should have added a harness with a fuse, check that fuse (the boo switches short out and start on fire sometimes)
I used to see failed amp servo assemblies and the occasional broken throttle cable out of the electronic servo
Good luck
If you get pissed off enough, or are in serious need, or handicapped, I could get the pages and photo them to post on here for you
We just returned from a trip OK to NY/NJ and back in our 06 E150. Discovered cruise wouldn't work about an hour into our trip. Lived with(out) it till we got there. Pulled connector at master cylinder switch, removed insulation and used one of those blue splice connectors (had to hollow out inside channel) to jump connector. Works like a charm. I did buy another switch but since it is mounted to bottom of M/C, wasn't sure if I could get it changed without bleeding brakes in the snow/cold while in a sling. So as it is for now. That switch is redundant to the brake light switch for canceling cruise.
