Stupid noob question. It appears I can swap out my old seized OEM locking hubs with aftermarket quite easily. Remove clip swap replace clip.
I see no reason for a Jack, lift or removal of tires/wheels. Am I correct? Help. Thanks!!!
You should be able to. Depending on the year of truck it has torx ( I believe ) bolts holding it on, or an internal snap ring. Remove the fastener wiggle it out. You might have to turn the axle or the tire to get everything to line up.
it's been a while since I did one.

yup. If we’re talking factory to factory locking hub.
I wonder if you can clean them up and reuse them? Save some money.
yeah they can be disassembled cleaned and serviced. But I don’t think ford offers a rebuild kit in the true sense of the word. I dont think they consider the part rebuildable. Most just replace them if they go bad. I know this company offers the o-rings. You can probably match the o rings if you have a hardware store or place that makes hydraulic hoses or fittings. . https://www.dieselorings.com/1999-20...o-rings-2.html
Since when aren't the hubs rebuildable? Ford sells service kits for them and they're just held together with some snap rings. https://parts.lakelandford.com/p/For...3Z1K106AB.html
Unless i wanted to upgrade to HD aftermarkets, If they weren't broke, I'd just tear it apart, clean it, grease it, put it back together with new o-rings and reinstall it. $75 to rebuild OEM quality parts vs $300+ for something new with similar quality.

back when I needed one rebuilt they didn’t offer rebuild kits. You had to buy a complete outer locking hub. All I knew about was the rubber O-rings that could be replaced and you could clean and lube the hub that came with the vehicle. And evennthst took some searching. I’m surprised they even offer the rebuild kit. When vehicles get beyond x years a lot of parts are simply discontinued by OEM

I guess they use the term "rebuild" pretty loosely. The "rebuild" kits look like just an o-ring and a gasket. As far as i know, here aren't any internal wear items that are replaceable, either they're still useable or they're broken. I'll admit, I've never taken one of the newer ones apart, but I've restored a few older ones that were rusted solid and were fine once cleaned up.

yeah I doubt Ford really cares about a rebuild kit. If it’s under warranty and it breaks they are gonna replace the whole outer hub as a unit. If it’s out of warranty I doubt they really worry about that. I was looking to replace the little dash power point because the little cover broke and the parts guy said image to buy the whole dash guage trim piece. They dont sell the power point separately. $450 for the dash piece. It’s discontinued now. I just hit the junkyard and bought the whole dash trim piece.
the biggest issue in the future for cars is gonna be parts availability.
