Oil Sampling and Testing
I work in construction and we do it to all our equipment, the cost is well worth it. For $15 per sample you can predict when you'll need to do and engine job or loose a final drive.
Since it costs $75 just for the oil and filter on my 6.0L I was thinking of sampling the oil to get an idea if 3000, 5000, or 7500 mile oil changes are necessary. I figure I'll change the oil at regular intervals at first to create a baseline but then start pushing the cycles and monitoring the oil to see if I can get 10,000 or 20,000 mile changes. I may need to swap the filter in between but the idea of cutting the cost of the change in half is appealing to me.
Let me know what you think?
I haven't sent them any oil yet, but I have read good things about them.
According to GCF I shouldn't have to change it ever again. I'm not sure that I believe that just yet, but my oil is still transparent. We do have several USAF fleet vehicles with well over 90K-100K miles on the same oil at our base.
I have only had to change the GFC filter once so far. The recommendation is to change the GCF filter ($17.00/ try to buy them in bulk to save on shipping) every 10,000 and the factory every 25,000. The GCF filter will bring your total oil capacity up to 18-20Qts. You do wind up replacing about 3-4 Qts each time you change the GCF filter.
