I got a 67 f-100 with a terrible body but a good 352, 4 in the floor engine and trans. I’ve been looking for a good roller to put the engine in and a found this 66 f-100. I’m wondering if it’s a good idea. I like the looks of the 66 more than the 67 and it’s in way better shape.
this is the truck: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/577315147543364/
Your 67 is terminal rust-wise yes. The 66 If it doesn’t have terminal cancer also is a decent price.
Plus the 66 has lots of electrical doo-dads for hours of fun. 😊
As much as I would like to see the 67 saved, its largely hopeless, due to the massive amount of rust.
Regarding the 66, they are great looking trucks. it appears to be solid, and the price is not bad, in today's market. Looks like the 66 has an FE in it already, so it should be an easy swap over. I can't t tell if the 66 truck is a auto or standard, but if its anything other that another 4 speed, you will have to cut the hump, and find a tall hump to bolt in.
The tall hump bolts in to allow for the taller 4 speed trans, and Its possible that the one from the 67 might work. Hopefully the 66 is a standard, but if not you will need peddles, to convert it.
If the 66 is an auto, then be prepared for the possibility, that it wont move, especially if its been sitting a while.
Look in the "A" pillar area for rust, as well as the cab mounts, floor board, and cab corners. These are areas prone to rust on this model, and old trucks in general.
Solid metal in the A pillars, but rusty mounts would not be a deal killer for me, but you know your own skills and what equipment you have available.
I agree, with you based on what I see, that it looks like a solid old truck. I would probably buy it, if I had found it.
Hope you get it...... Let us know.
Yes its not too bad. It was easier when i was your age....
If you go this route, it sounds like the 67 hump with fit, if you keep your 4 gear trans.
Should you decide to use the auto trans, and mate it to your engine, remember to remove the clutch pilot bearing from the donor engine, before mating it up.
