Smile Thermostat

I have a 92 F-150 with a 300 in-line 6......the thermostat i have in there now keeps the engine super cool...and since it's comming close to winter i wanted some more heat. It gets mighty cold in that cab and takes forever and a day to heat it up even after i've been running for a while. What i need to know is, if i wanted my truck to run a little warmer what temp thermostat can i put in there. The factory one was pulled and this colder one put in a few years ago (before i got it), and what was the temp the factory one ran at? Thanks!!

Check with the parts stores, they can tell you. Also might help to cover your grille to keep cold air out of engine compartment.

You should be able to get plenty of heat with a 180 degree thermostat. It sounds like your thermostat is sticking open, so it may be time to replace it anyway. Stock thermostats are around 195 degrees. I would not go any lower than 180 degree, even in the summer.

I agree with the previous post, replace the therm. If you still have problems, you might need to flush the heater core.

I've run 160 degree with no problems (260K on 5.8L F250HD) but it will be cold in winter especially farther North. I agree with above. I'd also pull the old one out and see what temp it is. You can place it in a pot of water on stove with a thermometer and see if it sticks or not. Simpler and cheap enough to just replace it. I got a 180 in a F350 thats works fine and a 192 in a '98 F250 thats really warm.

I would stick with the stock stat. and i would get a factorypart on this as I have found the extra few dollars spent is well worth it on a thermostat.

I've been told the same thing as greasemonkeyjoe, to get the thermostat from the dealer. They will probably last longer and they are what your vehicle was designed for. I heard this after I installed my 180 degree thermostat, so when it goes bad I'll see about one from the dealer.
