I haven't been under my hood much but today I went looking for upfitter wires. I had seen these blocks before but this time I became more curious. They don't really seem to be attached, just kind of stuffed in the corners. So, noise reduction? Vibration? Fire protection? Or maybe forgotten about during PDI?
I'de have to guess its a cosmetic plug so you can't see all the way through to the ground, because without it others will ask... "am I missing a part here?"
They look like debris filters (to keep leaves and such from falling down into the fender area). I don't recall those being on mine, but I do notice that leaves and debris collect in that area of the hood, since dead leaves are abundant this time of year.
If left long enough down in the bottom of the fender area, they'll rot and contribute to rust.
Last minute NVH fix by Ford. Seen it alot. Easy to install, no special tooling needed, CHEAP. Someone test drove / evaluated the truck close to Job 1 and bitched about noise or something. Happens all the time. Similar to last minute bolted on mass dampers to eliminate some noise / resonant frequency an evaluator wrote up at a certain drive cycle. Every MD I've seen is bolted on, an indication that tooling / weld fixture was not planned earlier in development and needed a quick remedy near SOP. They'll VA/VE out probably on the 2023 release.
My Lariat Value Package has them, exactly like the one's in the OP's pictures. It's funny how somebody can point something out, and you wonder how you never saw it before. I have no clue what they are but noise reduction and/or debris catchers seem like good possibilities.
