Three speed shift tube fix

I was having shifting problems on my 1972 three on the tree. I ended up removing the steering column and it turns out that the tab that engages the shift levers at the end of the tube has gone AWOL. There's just a square hole there. I have no idea how to fix that, and I have been unsuccessful at finding another tube to purchase. I find plenty for for automatics but so far no luck for three-speeds. I would really love to know how install another tab on my current tube or where to buy another one, if anyone knows.

If I remember correctly from when I had my column apart, There was a rectangular lug welded to the tube, that engages the shifter arms. You may have to make one and slowly trim it to fit and work right.

Thanks, yes, I was wondering if I could do that. However, there is a square hole that the lug seems to fit in and I think there is a weld inside the tube. It makes me wonder if maybe that lug or key or whatever it's called is supposed to have some spring action or something.

Rectangle acts like a key that engages the shifter arms & thrust washers for the correct combination for the correct gear

I'm thinking that the lug was placed in the hole and welded from the inside. I would make a new lug and try doing the same.
