Actually, your best bet is to stick your head under the drivers side dash. The code is printed on a paper sticker affixed to an electronic box located under the dashboard. The box is up under the dash near the parking brake assembly.
Correction: it is the 5 really big numbers...black numbers on a white sticker. The owner's manual indicates how you can reprogram the code to whatever you want when you have the original code.
You can never erase the original code, but you can add a second code which will also work. Key in the original code, press the [1|2] button, then key in the second code.
BTW, you should have a credit card-sized piece of plastic with the keycode in the owner's manual packet.
Adding a code is well and fine but remember this....
If the battery goes dead or you take unhook the battery for any reason the 2nd code is erased, on my cars I have found it easier to remember the original code....
