I have gotten the wheel growl from the truck, so I am assuming it is a bad wheel bearing and I am assuming I will have to replace it. My question is. I am not exactly sure which wheel has the bad bearing. Is there a way to tell wiithout removing the tire? I know which side of the vehicle it is on but I am not sure it it is coming from the front or back wheel.
My other question is how easy of a process is it to replace a bearing (i was going to do the wheel bearing hub assembly). I know it would be expensive to do it at a dealer/shop. I have the tools and space to do it, but I am not sure how hard it will be. Has anyone done it before?
Typically you'll find play in the bearing. Elevate wheel, grab tire at 12 and 6 and push/pull. Support vehicle so your hand doesn't get crushed if jack fails. Note this will also reveal ball joint play so if you find any you then need to determine exactly where it's coming from.
WWR listed how to test it. The job itself is simple but since you didn’t list your truck I don’t know if you have individual inner & outer bearings or a wheel bearing assembly.
