Good Day all, I may need a front hub for my 66 2wd. I started hearing a bearing noise and ordered the parts. After removing the hub I found that the outer bearing sleeve was split and had a gap in it while it was still in the hub. I replaced the bearings and after fitting everything, I still have a wobble on the tire. Looking at the options online. I don't have much to find unless I want to do a Disc conversion. Im looking for a resource or advice as to getting her back on the road sooner rather than later. As always that's for all the help. Lawrence
You are talking about the outer bearing race, that presses into the drum / hub right?
So was their visible damage to the hub, or the spindle? I am wondering if your looseness is from the wrong bearing assembly.
I have found auto parts, especially for old vehicles to not always be an exact fit. If you sill have one good hub, bearing and race, make some comparisons to it, and the new bearing assembly.
Correct, its the front left. I purchased them from LMC truck and today, I compared it to the ones at Oreily's. They both were 45.2mm wide. I believe that the hub is the issue because the previous one was cracked with a gap while in the hub. I will need to pull the right side to compare properly.
Get in touch with Ben.
Those hubs are long obsolete and not reproduced. Good ones are getting scarce. You may know this, but the drum has to be pressed on the hub. It is best to buy new studs and take it to a machine shop and have them press it all together. Ford only supplied the hub and drum together. If the drum needs trued that is done with the hub on it.
Ben did connect with me. They are on the way. Couldn't recommend him more. Will be at the top of the list for the next steps on keeping her on the road. I was a little shocked when the hub popped off in my hand. Need to find a good machine shop. The one that was used in the past stopped doing automotive work. Time flies and things change.
My 66 F100 has damaged threads on the lug studs. I bought replacement studs 2 fit fine but the remaining 3 all wobble. I’m guessing the holes are out of round/enlarged. So I’m thinking I need to have the stud holes redrilled so all the same size. By going this route I would need to know what the interference fit (hub hole vs stud knurled diameter) was spec’d at and buy studs accordingly. Anyone know what the specs are?
Thank you in advance for your help!
Dorman has about any size you could ever need. If they have to be drilled oversize, then you will need to figure that out. Dorman Products - Search Results

Agreed, but I need to know what the interference fit is before I select the studs.
That would be the major diameter of the stud minus the knurl. Keep in mind the un-knurled part of the stud has to be a tight fit in the brake drum. For that reason you cannot go to just any oversize you want. You need to take the hub along with the drum to a good automotive machine shop and explain to them that the hub and drum are pressed together along with new studs and let them supply the studs. Or try to find a serviceable hub.
I should have explained with more detail. I do not know if the hub-drum combo I have is stock or not. The studs came thru the drum and had a “retaining ring” holding the assembly together. I do not see the retaining ring in the Ford manual drawing. I also have new drums, old ones were shot.
So more questions:
1. Were the old hub-drums from a different year?
2. With new drums is the press fit still required?
3. Or is question #2 for NPD, who I bought the drums from?

1. Who knows! 64-67 fit. See if the hubs have a casting number on them.
2. Should be depends on the drums.
3. I doubt anyone at NPD will know. Why buy that kind of stuff from a re-pop seller and pay shipping when any parts house can get it for you.
To get an original unmolested drum and hub apart you have to press the studs out and hit the drum with a BFH.
I’m replacing a hub and drum ( left front) from a wrecking yard donation. The guy that pulled the hub and drip us off another 66 like mine, did do the measurements and said the drum had tons of life left. The right side drum is new (1 1/2 years old)…will that matter? One old original and one new?

Should not be a problem. I would suggest having them both resurfaced so they have matching... surfaces for even braking and no pulls.
