Hey sorry i'm pretty new and am not really looking for a Diesel myself, nothing against it i am just sticking with the V10 but any how i work for an ambulance service and we have Ford Ambulances (hmm, police use FORD Crown Vics, we use FORD Ambulances what a coincidence) and i was just wondering is the 6.0L diesel turbocharged or what's the difference in that and the 7.3L diesel? I'm just trying to figure out what we run at work. Regardless of what size they are i know one thing is for sure, that's when you get up on 'er you can light up the tires... looks kind of funny from an ambulance but it's worth it
The 6.0 is a newer generation, turbo, intercooled 32 valve diesel. It's lighter thatn the 7.3 and more powerful. I'm pretty sure the 7.3 was a 16 valve diesel.
Very early 7.3 Power Stroke Diesels were NOT turbocharged. The later 7.3's ARE turbocharged. ALL 6.0 PSD's are turbocharged. I am fairly certain there are no non-turbocharged diesels being sold for automotive applications in the USA today by any manufacturer. Emissions and efficiency being the reasons.
I live in Denver Colorado and all the ambulance companies switched to diesels partly for the economy, but they said mainly for their ability to absolutely ELIMINATE the vapor lock problem they were having with the gasoline powered units during long periods of idling in hot weather with a double air conditioning system operating.
