Revisiting cowl drainage

After a member posted his experience regarding his plugged cowl I decided to look at mine today. What I found was two completely clogged drains. both packed with mud. What I decided to do was remove the duck bill style drain plug. If you look up inside your fender you will see two rubber pieces that serve as a "drain" for your cowl. I'm very rarely one to second guess engineers but I concluded that most likely I will not suffer catastrophic failure from their removal. It also guarantees that that the 1/16th inch opening will never become plugged again. I have absolutely no idea what the thought was behind restricting the drainage.

Great find, were those rubber pieces accessible thru the bottom of the fender/body or did you have to fish them out?

You can reach them from under the truck and yank them out by hand. They are just held on with plastic push pins.
