It depends... The 2000-2001 F-650's were built by Ford in Cuautitian, Mexico. There was basically a Super Duty cab stuck on the earlier 1980-1999 F series medium duty truck chassis, most were Cummins ISB powered. Pretty cheap, crude, and underpowered. In late 2001 Ford quit manufacturing medium duty trucks and contracted with Navistar (International) to build them in Escobedo, Mexico. Those F-650's and 750's say "Manufactured By Blue Diamond Truck" on the door jamb sticker. They are basically a Super Duty cab mounted on an International 4400 chassis. These trucks offered more engines besides the Cummins, including the Cat 3126, 7.3L Powerstroke, 6.0L Powerstroke, and a few late ones had the gas 6.8L V-10 in them. The 'Blue Diamond' F-650's at least had more power than the older F-650's. I didn't think much of them when we had them in the fleet, they seemed to fall apart and had a LOT of electrical problems. Needless to say don't buy one with the 6.0L Powerstroke. Biggest problem with those trucks now is they are hard to get parts for. A lot of Ford dealers pretend they never existed and International dealers can't look up parts for them, but often you can match up parts with International. To be honest, I would look for an older (pre-MaxxForce engine) International, Freightliner M2, or even a GMC TopKick (particularly with the Isuzu 6HK1 diesel) before I would buy an older Ford F-650. The newer 2016-up Ford built F-650's seem to be pretty good.
Solid trucks. I had two early 2000 with the Cummins. No experience with the Cat engine but the truck itself held together and didnt give many issues. Didnt take them to high mileage though, local work only. Still have them parked out back and used as farm trucks.
6 plus hour round trip and it was a POS! Frame, brakes and pretty much every piece of steel of the undercarriage was rusted out. Frame was starting to peel. You would think people would give accurate descriptions and pictures!
