Great idea

Awesome post, really got me thinking. Considering a way to use a transformer to run the cordless off of 120V ac power too.

Obsolete batteries.
Some people do have quality units just the fact the battery won't go over 10yrs doesn't mean it isn't quality. Who posted that?

I have a b&d kodiak 13.2 vintage 1990 era deck screw driver. Batteries finally gave up after 15 years(it came with 3 batteries).
Batteries plus rebuilds them or will at least sell you the replacement cells if they can't.

Cordless deck drivers are running 250$ plus these days plus most aren't adjustable for torque and most spin at 3000rpm.
With that I will give rebuilding a shot. If you have a favorite it may be worth a try.

I also did that to my old cordless when the batteries ran out. I used some quick couplers to change between the three power conectors. Aligator clips, cigarette lighter, and larger battery terminal clips. The connectors i am taliking about are the weather risistant automotive type. The ones with the one exposed and one shileded terminals so you do not mix up the polarity.

Wolfman,
What exactly were you doing when you were messing around with a garden hose and an empty pepsi bottle?

I think I was shooting the bottle across the shop floor. I'd get about 25 feet each time.
