1999 Ford Ranger/ 3.0 / 44RE
Started truck just fine and put it in 4wd...both lights started flashing and no go. I switched it out and the lights kept flashing. I disconnected the transfer case (truck is still running) to no avail, lights still flashing. I did get it to move a little though. I shut it off, and disconnected the ground to reset...no dice and it wouldn't even start back up. Took cable off and cleaned the terminal to no luck. That is where I am at.
I did notice the wire from the transfer case housing isn't connected to anything anymore, but I couldn't find a wire that it could be connected to, not sure if that is all it is.
Weather is about 15 degrees outside and snowy so any help would be greatly appreciated.
No replies yet so will see if I can get things started. This is a OBD-2 diagnostics vehicle, so use, borrow, or come by the ELM scan-tool & run FORScan diagnostic freeware on the viewing of choice as discussed here Low Cost ELM Scantool - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums (ford-trucks.com), as this inexpensive but powerful combo can query All of the vehicles computer / controllers for trouble code clues, then post All code Numbers as they can help focus a trouble shoot.
All that said, remember it takes fuel, air & spark to make em run & good spark & valve timing & compression to have them run well, so what's going missing???
Problem has been fixed...the wire that goes from the loom to the transfer case was missing. In this mess when I went to put it in 4WD it stuck the vehicle in between gears. It would roll completely on its own while looking like it was in park. I was still unable to start. I realized that since I did a splice job for that wire I should be able to connect the battery and get the shifter to recognize park. It worked.
So problem has been fixed, by installing the wire I paid a shop to do.
Ok good feedback & to hear it was a simple fix & you're on the road again. Maybe stop by the shop & have a heart to heart talk with the Qwner!!! Thanks for closing out your thread.
