99 gages question
Two questions, sort of related. I have a 99 with the tachometer. One of the light bulbs has gone out behind the battery/alt. meter. How hard to replace is it? Also, would like to switch to white face gages if possible. Anyone know who makes a decent set? I checked with local dealer hoping to maybe get factory set, but I guess they didn't offer them until 2000 and dealer said the gage pod changed enough that it wouldn't fit. I also mentioned explorer(similar from what I've seen to ranger) and they said that would not fit either. thanks for feedback.

Installing a bulb is not hard at all, but it is time consuming. You must remove the plastic bezel around the radio and climate controls, and remove several screws from all around the dash panel that fits around the steering wheel. Then you must remove that panel (which is difficult if you have an auto. tranny because the shifter is in the way. I put mine in first gear to make more space, but be careful if you do this so your truck doesn't take off rolling). Once you have the dash panel removed from around the steering wheel/gages, you can unbolt and remove the gage cluster itself and change bulbs, etc.
The white face guages were not factory equipment until 2003. And they are very difficult to read at dawn and dusk, but they are really cool looking during the day and night.
