I'm working on the interior which will be mostly stock including a Dennis Carpenter rubber floor mat. I want to cover the remaining exposed floor at the ends and under the seat with similar robber. After looking for sheet rubber online it seems like it would be cost effective to buy another CD mat and cut it up to fit. Have any of you guys done this and what did you use?
Thank you.
Completion is in sight. Expect to register and drive it in the spring!
I have pondered the rubber floor mat dilemma myself. The later cabs like yours don't seem to taper as much so maybe it will work for you. Our 48-52 cabs are considerably narrower at the cowl than it is at the back of the doors. My concern would be that it wouldn't fit right at the door sill. One may need to create a custom sill plate to hide the edge and hold the mat down.
I used a black ribbed rubber floor mat from the local home center, it comes in a roll and they sell it by the foot..... only pay for what ya need. I believe it's 27" wide.
Those repro DC mats are amazing! I bought one myself, and they’re much better than anything that’s been produced before. They’re very thick besides being very accurate to the originals. Chuck Mantiglia supposedly worked closely with Dennis to develop the patterns from an NOS example.
I covered my mats with some NOS 1957 car mats I forget the model. I like the white ford logo on them.
I'm glad you like the Carpenter reproduction floor mat for your year truck. I bought the reproduction mat for 53-56 trucks. It looks the same at first glance but...
The originals had perforations for the floor gear shift lever, the emergency brake, etc. The DC one did not. It is much thicker than the original which might sound like a good thing yet it still tore when I was putting it in. I believe it is made with inferior rubber. I will post pictures of it later.
I bought an NOS mat years ago from a FTE member for my 54 so I know how they are supposed to look.
