05 excursion has Luke warm heat front and back. changed both heater cores flushed lines to the best I could with air and garden hose. heat works mint when its 50*f outside anything colder and it blows Luke warm. front is a little warmer then the back. driving makes no difference in the front but the rear gets a little warmer. my temp gauge is barely moving also but does work. Coolant is topped off thermostat was replaced last winter hen the issue started and so was the water pump. vacuum valve works wen its supposed to. its def a flow issue I say this cause I can hold for aslong as I want any hose on the truck and they are barely warm if not cold. someone please help I have kids that ride in this truck and its snowmobile season need the truck to get up north lol and being a mechanic I refuse to pay someone to fix something that I'm more then capable of fixing atlas I thought I was
Working on these trucks, the parts store thermostats don't stand up long in these trucks. They get stuck open easily causing your issues and get stuck shut causing overheating issues.
Pull the thermostat and replace it with either a new Motorcraft or the Mishimoto 200 degree thermostat. Either one will get the heat back.
I'd also make sure that if you have the mechanical fan clutch that it's not stuck locked. While BPD fan clutch and adapter works great for towing during the summer, if it doesn't unlock, then it'll cause the issue you're having.
If it is the 6.0 engine the water pump blades are plastic and failure is known issue.
also you mentioned the vacuum valve, just to be clear. The inline shut off valve on the passenger side hose inlet that cuts off hot water supply to the heater core.
That really screams thermostat. Check your temp guage. I had one that really fooled me. I was always used to thermostats being stuck closed and overheat. I'd be driving 75 mph and the engine just would not warm up. I agree-get a good thermostat
