Received 2 Wagner BD60187 rear brake (11 x 2.5) drums from Rockauto yesterday. One of the drums came with what looks to be a balance slug not attached. It was just loose in the box. If I'm successful with my hyperlink, it should show one drum with 2 balance slugs attached and the other drum with one attached and one not attached. Any ideas about why a slug would be included but not attached? It doesn't appear to have fallen off as there are no obvious welding marks. ??????
I would assume someone (some machine) forgot to weld it on, since it looks like the other drum's weight. Since they probably both came from the same line at the same time, they probably both need the same amount of weight attached.
FWIW: Your drums probably say "made in China" and came from Autozone. Those drums have a lot of weights. Then again, you can end up buying drums with no weights attached and that is worse! The best ones to snag say "made in Canada" and have the AMC part numbers (323 ####) stamped into them from the old tooling.
They were actually made in USA according to the spec sheet that came with the drums. If nothing else I'll take them both to a brake shop and have them checked for balance.
