I have a 2002 superduty diesel 4x4. Im looking to swap wheels as the 16 inch stock wheels which I put Michelin LTX Defenders on are horribly noisy. I found a set off a 2017 F350 that currently has 275/65 R 20 tires on it. Was wondering if they will fit and if so, do I need spacers?
Bolt pattern will fit. Wheel offset will cause the wheels to be pulled far in towards the frame. You'll look like one of those Hi-Rail railroad trucks, with the wheels tucked far under the fender. Not a good look.
As mentioned, they'll fit and look good with the correct adapters, but get quality, this isn't the place to save a few dollars. The Ebay aluminum adapters are not what you want.
Thanks, folks. Just a side note. As soon as these tires were installed, I noted tire noise. They are 235 85R 16 Michelin Defender LTX. Its not the bearings as I have already checked. My old set was the previous Michelin LTX. Not the Defenders.
That’s the quietest truck tire on the market. Are you sure you don’t have a wheel bearing problem?

This was what I was going to say. Those tires should be almost silent going down the road. They are sold as a mud/snow tire but that tread is basically a highway tread.
If you've got tire noise with those tires, then you likely have some kind of an alignment/bearing problem. Possibly a tire that is out of round, which can happen even from the factory. But being loud just from driving those tires down the road? Highly unlikely. I had them on my old '03 dually and they were the quietest tire I've ever owned.
Well, I picked up the rims today. 20 inch off a 2017 f250 platnum. The Michelin LTX/AT tires on the rims are LT 275R 20. Put them on without spacers and they are almost silent! So its the Defenders that are the issue. Now to get the same offset, I will need 2" spacers. Recommendations for them and do you just use them on the front or all 4?
If I was running spacers it would be steel hub centric spacers only. I wouldn’t put aluminum non-hubcentric spacers on my vehicles. I really wouldn’t put spacers on my vehicles but that’s just me.
personally I would of taken the defenders back to the tire shop and demanded new ones? We’re these new or a set of used Craiglist specials from Used Tire Emporium on the corner? If they are new the tire shop should have no issue taking them back. Hell even used they should take them back. But the problem with used tires is you never know how they were treated. Because my wife has Defenders on her QX56 abd they are awesome. I’ve ran two sets of Defenders on my Crown Vic and it’s on its third set now.
