Thanks to all of you with your great info and knowledge, I have changed oil, fuel filter and trans fluid myself. Like most of you, I don't trust my truck with NO one else. I used Rotella T, Fram filters and synthetic trand fluid. I do have one question though. I noticed some trash/debris in the bottom of the fuel "bowl". I tried to get out what I could but there was a little left. Is this something that is common?
Oh my goodness, must to have been a brain fart. I used Motorcraft filters. I had to go to the dealer to get the fuel filter though. Cost $48.50. Local Advance Auto had the oil and oil filter. I found it funny none of the locals (Napa, Auto Zone or Advance) had the fuel filter (Motorcraft). Must be a conspiricy. Fram where the heck did that come from.
I just bought a fuel filter from NAPA for around $20.00. Just a reminder if you get a filter that comes with a new cover do not throw away your old cover. My last filter came with a new cover and I cleaned up the old one and put it in the tool box good thing I did because I just replaced it and the new one did not come with the cover. So if you have the room keep all stock parts if you want to .
Trash in the bottom is fairly common. I'd remove the pipe (nut at the bottom is backwards thread), remove the heater element then clean it out real good. These housings are know to corrode through and if that junk stays in there that might happen to you. I've read they cost many hundreds of $$$ for a new bowl.
And do you remember to drain the water out periodically? That might help wash some of the stuff out of there, too.
