Engine Rattle
I Have a 00 F-150 i noticed that when i go up hills in over drive or accelerate there is a rattling sound coming from the engine. I dont know if this is related to the first problem but at a certain speeds somtimes the whole truck gentley jerks back and forth.

I'll bet this post will be moved to the approp. truck forum, as it says "no truck tech discussion" here.
"Rattling" under accel is consistent with engine knock, either from pre-ignition or detonation. The surging you describe sounds like what my '88 4.9 does when the EGR valve is bad, i.e., surging b/w 1,500 and 1,900 or 2,200, if I remember?
Standard or auto trans?
Might get you headed in the right direction--might not, too--lol!
