C6 Shift issues

I have an 86 with a 300 I6 in it that was originally a stick shift. It has been parked for a while and right when I parked it I changed it over to an automatic putting a C6 in it. I drove it once after the install and it shifted from 1st to 2nd but not to drive, I always thought the shift module just needed adjustment. Well now I'm trying to put it back on the road and it doesn't shift out of 1st weather I let it shift or I do it manually. I tried adjust the module and that's not making a difference but I realized I never transferred the kick down to this truck and I've heard people talk about it affecting the way it shifts, now I'm wondering if it's not shifting because the kick down isn't there. I need to know if you disconnect the kick down from the trans if it will still shift and if not how do I know how much tension to put on it to make it work...

On a C6 the kickdown linkage is only used for kickdown. Make sure that your modulator is getting full manifold vacuum.

ok, thanks. That is on my list to check. Do you know if to much vacuum is ok?

I would say that a stock engine would have at least 15in of manifold vacuum at the modulator hot idle.
