Between the bed of my truck and the cab there is a black carpet looking piece attached to the cab. Does anyone know what this is for or why it's there? I have a funky smell in my truck after it rains or I wash it and I think it might be coming from this thing. I have lots of trees at my house and leaves and junk get caught between the bed and cab and I think when it gets wet the old leaves start to stink and the smell comes in through the cab vents on the back wall of the cab. I have tried cleaning out the leaves as best as possible without taking off the bed but some are stuck between the rug/carpet thing and cab and I can't get them out. Since there isn't much room to work with between the cab and bed it makes it hard to get something down there. I am thinking about taking off the bed and removing the carpet/rug thing unless it serves an important purpose. Anyone know what that is? 19 F250, Lariat, 4wd, diesel
There are a few things "stuck" to the back of the cab
1. On each side there are some "seals" that I'm pretty sure are there to reduce wind noise.
2. The cab vents, and if the stink is getting into your cab they may be either stuck open or not properly seated into the cab wall. This can lead to water intrusion which might be the cause of your stink
3, That carpet looking stuff which is for sound deadening.
If you are getting a lot of leaves, water and trash between the bed and cab, try shoving some pipe insulation or pool noodles in there, just a bit from the top. Give them a little slope to each side for drainage. Maybe that will allow things to dry out and stay clean down in there.
Do you have a sunroof? They’re known to be installed incorrectly from the factory and/or the drains get plugged. As you stated, with a lot of debris on your property, they may be plugged. Otherwise check the carpet under the back seat. If that’s wet, the cab vents are allowing water ingress.
Yes I've checked the carpet in front of the back seat and in back of it and no wetness. I do have a sunroof but I don't think that's leaking. If it was where would it be coming in at or showing up at and where are the drains located?
