I知 going to install a set of cams in my 99 f150 4.6. I知 replacing the cams obviously, the valve seals, timing chains and components, oil pump, head gaskets. Do I need to replace the crank and rod bearings and put new rings in since I知 redoing the top end?

are these cams compatible with the factory valve springs and retainers???
I壇 replace the timing chains, tensioners and guides as well
No
There are instanced when it may be warranted
Butt pot of miles etc.
Better off removing the engine for an overhaul in those cases
i considered putting new bearing in the crank and in the rods with new rings but if the cams weren稚 going to hurt the bottom end I was going to wait on rebuilding the bottom end for right now. The truck is just a daily driver no racing or hard towing. I知 going to pull the motor out to do everything and tear everything apart.
I知 wanting to put in comp cams xe268h cams. I知 wondering if anyone knows if there will be any ptv issues. It痴 4.6 non pi. I致e seen on some forums and videos where some people didn稚 have any issues or had to degree the cam

ummmm
has you had this discussion with your tuner?
what gears are in the truck?
I知 wondering why one would change the cams on a N/A npi 4.6 seems like a total waste of money and negates performance/drivability
I'm just wanting a little sound in my truck I've wanted cams for a while now. Just trying to get some helpful information on if i should do the bottom end, im pretty sure the motor has around 240ish.

cams will reduce the low end
if it were mine, I壇 do a PI head/cam/intake swap and enjoy it
My sentiment exactly
If you want a hotrod, buy one
A screw or Turbo
Replacing the cams looking for performance is liable to be a bummer
It can be done, but the cam specs have to be close to factory, or it will run like puke
Maybe something similar to 5.4 lightning cam specs, is what I'd do if provoked

the factory Lightning cams are identical to every other 2 valve PI camshaft
If it is a deeper growl you want, for sure, ditch the NPI and get some heads and an intake and go PI. Mustangs went form 215hp. to 260 hp. with the PI setup. I know for a fact my stock 97 Mustang GT did not have the same sound as my 2000 Mustang stock GT. Granted, the Mustangs have true factory duals where as the F150 does not so that makes a difference also. I really think you will be disappointed in just a cam swap. How about doing a true dual exhaust ( not just a reverse Y) to get some growl?
My PI 5.4 is 260hp/350tq area. That 4.6 I think was 210hp/260tq. Torque accelerates you anyway.
While 260hp is pretty lame, a good tune (I have 5star ones) an intake and a high flow muffler yield a much easier driving vehicle and gets down the road just fine.

I agree with Spotty on this one. I have a 2000 f150 4.6 V8 with almost 300,000 miles. Ive done all kinds of stuff Port and polished the TB and upper intake manifold, performance mustang fuel injectors, K&N CAI, Etc.. but without a doubt after putting on some highflow cats with true duals there isnt a day that goes by where Im not grinning like a little kid as I push the petal to the floor.
