NEWER Seats

Hey everyone, let me preface that i used the search function including google and did not find much.
i have a 1977 f100 it has been rebuilt with lots of goodies. but at this pont the original bench seat that has been reupholstered needs to be replaced with a more modern seat that has good bolstering
My question is, has anyone put a newer (2010+) F150 or other vehicle seat in their truck? I know there will be a good bit of modifications and fabricating to get the seats mounted but im curios if the width or height will be too much. just looking for some people who have tried or experienced this yet. I would like to get power/heated seats.

I think some '90s era seats will bolt in. I know there's threads here on them and I'd look at them, some with center flip ups I think ... but mine are already 1986 Mercury Grand Marquis 40/20/40 buckets with individual center arm rests. I've seen some project threads here and the owner used newer seats in it, like well into 2000s newer.

Below is mine for ideas ... there is a 4" wide center storage between the buckets as the truck cab is wider than a Mercury's is. My 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis has essentially the same seats, and it's a 4 dr.

Got new fuller tweed seat covers in a box, just need to put them on now. These are just OK, but the thin stretchy part doesn't hold them as taught as I'd like. The original seat covering is leather, but it started cracking bad in the side (bolster) areas.

Wood spacer blocks work well for last 35 years. Seats were less than a year old when I got them out of a '86 Mercury Grand Marquis 2 door.

I also long ago built storage, just since this photo pulled them and refinished it and put back in. If seat is moved forward on tracks, they'll recline too. I can adjust seat attitude to adjust leg drop to floor, etc. with spacers and longer or shorter bolts through the floor. The storage was built to fit in the space as it exists with the head rest touching rear glass, but unless the seat back is unlatched, normally the head rest is maybe an inch from the glass.

Be careful that they don't leave you sitting too straight up or forward.

JMO anything with bolsters will be torn up in short order. You might try TMI, they may still do custom.

can you explain what you mean more? Are you saying that because it would be a used seat? Or the geometry of the cab?

Up to a 1996 seat will bolt in using the 77 sliders. Now you can get newer seats just have to make the sliders work. Find power of elec and heat panels. Below is my 2000 SD CC rear seat in my 79.

Had to use square tubing as a riser to get it at the correct height. I hate the low rider feeling.

01 SD CC rear seat.

01 SD front.

Dayum, now you got me thinking .... .... but just thinking so far.

Your first few pics with the rear seat in standard cab ... one with no door panels and the black glove box looks really sweet.

I put 2010+ seats in my 68. They were comfortable but it was too cramped since the backs are so much thicker. I even cut the backs down to gain some room but it was not enough. If you ran an aftermarket steering column and steering wheel that gave you more room they would be fine I think.
I put a 90 bench in mine after the 2010+ buckets. Not as comfortable but more room. I have a super duty bench seat out of a f450 to try but have not made it fit yet.

Notice how far back the 2010+ seats are in the crew cab pics above. Can't do that in a regular cab.

The REAR seat of a Super Duty Crew Cab "should" be in better shape since it is the rear seat. X2 on new seats are WAY thicker on the cushion and even the over all seat frame design. Also most are not designed to mounted on a flat floor with the way their mount feet are always at different heights with the sliders.

Sliding in and out over the bolster tends to wear on them. First place my Bronco split along the bolster seam, My Fiero just worn off top edge of bolster. My Fairmont split at bolster. I'm not that hard on seats, only #185. My 78 F150 bench is on first recover 200K+ miles.

Yes SD CC is Super Duty Crew Cab. And the back seat fits nicely in a reg cab 79. Just have to take the SD OEM (original equipment manufacture) mounts brackets off the seat and put the 79's on.

I used the seat out of a 95 super cab and the floor pan out of a regular cab. Moved the factory mounts on the pan and the seats fit perfectly. Few hours work with a spot weld cutter and a welder.

No idea what year this is out of . Reshaped mounting points to fit my 76.
I know guys say stuff bolts in the old fords but this seat was far from bolt in.
i really enjoy driving the ford with this comfortable seat. Did lots of mock up sitting to get height were I wanted it.

with a welding machine sledge hammer pair I beleive most any seat will fit. This seat only cost 40 bucks and was sitting outside next to row of fords thats why I dont know what its out of.
