Hello, I recently purchased a 1983 F250 single cab Dually and am a bit confused identifying the engine type G or D.
The title and Vin# indicate that it's a Diesel but the engine on the truck is a gas engine and no sign it was ever a Diesel engine.
Currently not running that's why I got it so cheap.
I think the engine is probably a 351w 5.8l but would like to know why in the title under Remarks is reads Diesel.
Dashboard says Unleaded but I'm not sure if it's the original because there's aftermarket Oil and Temp gages.
The Fuel filler does not have any labeling for Diesel.
I don't really have a preference for Gas or Diesel as long as it runs good is all that matters.
The exhaust pipes are normal pipe size pipes and not what you normally see on Diesels.
I'll take some picture of the engine next time I visit my mechanic friend, it's currently at his house.
2FT: Ford Motor Company of Canada Ltd.
H: GVWR Class H - 9001-10,001 lbs.
F25: F250 4x2
I: 6.9 Diesel
9: Check Digit -
D: 1983
C: Ontario Truck Plant (Canada)
A781192 - Sequential serial number
The truck certainly looks like an F350...
Is the certification label still inside the driver's door on the cab by the striker pin?
I was going by my 1984 Factory Service Manual. It shows the 6.9 as the letter "I".
I checked my 1985 Factory Service Manual, and it is shown as an I also. I usually reference these before anything else, and I'm not a diesel guy, so if it's supposed to be the number 1, my bad.
Ok, I did look at the LMC identifier previously and this makes sense. My main concern is figuring out which gas engine is in currently in it so that I can purchase the correct parts. I was not able to find engine ID numbers yet, I'll keep looking.
that truck is a fabricated mix and match, not a ford made vehicle.
first and foremost, Ford NEVER MADE a F-250 dually.
it was originally a diesel, but that was also 39 years ago.
