Ok, I have a '99 F250 Super Duty Super Cab long bed 4x2 V10, etc, etc. The problem is the old unworking brake controller had five wires. The harness of the new controller by Curt Venturer has 4 wires. Now what?
There are four wire connections involved with a electric brake controller: 1) Chassis Ground, 2) 12VDC battery power, 3) + Connection to brake switch and 4) Power out to the Electric Trailer Brakes. Not sure what the 5th wire to your old controller was. I would simply get a multimeter and identity each truck wire, then pair each to the matching controller wire.
It turns out the extra wire is for the Trailer Battery Feed, and it is red so one assumes it's a hot wire...I got the trailer lights working now. All trailer lights work as they should. Though the truck was purchased new by the old Houston Lighting and Power, my stepdad, a retired HLP lineman, brought it at auction in 2003 if I remember correctly $2,250.46. It came with a 6-round trailer plug that used the trailer battery feed. Wished I had gotten the name and model number of the old brake controller, but I didn't.
have a OEM trailer brake controller harness (5 wire) Red = brake control feed. Green stop light feed. blue + trailer brake feed. White = ground. Brown = illumination.
How do I hook up a 4 wire controller to this harness. I think your post answers my question, but unsure.
