Alrighty, quick question. Will a 1993 F150 camper shell fit a 1993 F250? Just started to think about it. Noticed a coworkers truck next to mine and got me wondering.
(my truck left, his right)
If the beds are the same length then yes it will fit because the beds are in fact identical.... the exact same sheetmetal was used on all F series trucks.

aren’t XLT tailgates higher quality / heavier duty than base base model? Or maybe it was f250 vs f150

No. Some models will have a trim panel, but no real difference in the basic strength of the tailgate. Early plain tailgates will have FORD stamped into them and later parts are just plain. Aftermarket tailgates are known to be flimsy.
3 basic beds. Flareside, short bed, and long bed. They are the same throughout the 87/97 run. They are the same general design as earlier trucks but you start to see some different details and tailgate designs.
Or it's weight, OEM ford gates are heavy so if you have a truck with a light tailgate it's aftermatrket.
Id say.. lol..
I am not very metal-working equipped or skilled but I was wondering if there is a way to stiffen and support a tailgate which is bent on the center toward the bottom where it meets the bed. I dont care if it looks weird while shut(Even open) but I like to be able to put things on the tailgate, walk on it carrying things, etc. Its always been bent since I have used it, but I dont know if its weakened. I havent broke it yet, and its not rusted out (surface rust I cleaned up) and the outer panel is still straight. based on this I would be crazy to replace it with an aftermarket flimsy,
If something could be done Id be open to it, even if it makes it heavy. I dumped sand and dirt that was inside over the years out to keep it from rusting Then if you had any ideas I could also use ideas to help my garbage trailer taillgate (1980s gm Square body bed with 1970s tailgate) whicih had a lot of dirt and sand that have made a lot of holes on the bottom (hinge plane) Lol!
