I have a 1995 f150. My distributors upper bushing wrote out and caused the pickup coil to break. I replaced the distributor with one from junkyard. I'm not getting fire, so thinking that the tfi or coil got fired or something I also replaced them. Not sure why I'm still not getting fire.
First tIme posting on a forum advice would be appreciated.
With the cap off, turn the engine over. Make sure the distributor is turning. It may have damaged more than you think.
If it is turning, how did you set the distributor in place? How did you find #1 Top Dead Center? Explain all the details, this is very easy to mess up.

The staff in the distributor was able to move far enough to catch the pickup coil and break the magnet apart off. It is in time with TDC. I thought it was hot at the coil before switching the TFI and coil. Either way it's not now.
Does the TFI get ground from the casing and fender. I know that 1 of the 6 wires are ground.
It is turning, I pulled number 1 plug turned the engine until it was at TDC and the marks on the crank pulley were at TDC marks.
Also had the wire harness that goes to the transmission wrap up in the front driveshaft
And rip apart. But I repaired that on side of the road and it ran until the pick up broke. I don't think that is the problem tho cause it did run for a day after

That's what I wanted to know. Using that procedure you could be 180 out. The timing marks and the piston come up twice per revolution. There are two ways to determine real TDC. You can take #1 sparkplug out, and turn the engine over by hand while holding your thumb over the sparkplug hole. This may take two people. When the cylinder starts trying to push your thumb off the hole, you know both valves are closed as the piston is coming up. Then look at the marks like you did and set it. Or;
Take the valve cover off and watch the rocker arms on #1 cylinder as you turn the engine by hand. When the valves are both closed, then look at the damper and line the marks.
